To increase this home's first floor footprint, our clients asked us to add a family room and an expanded dining area. We designed a slim addition that pushed the side of the home to the setback, to which we added a hip roof to echo the shape of the existing second story space.
At the back, a sliding French patio door with sidelights exits to a generous covered porch which provides an extension of the existing porch. A row of new columns support the new porch roof, and for a unified look, the steel columns supporting the existing porch roof were replaced with matching units.
A stucco exterior, white painted trim, matching shingles and shutters all combine to help the new addition blend in with the existing home.
