To expand the living space of this brick colonial, we designed a 2-story addition that included a new family room, powder room, laundry room and home office on the first floor, and a new bedroom and master bathroom on the second floor. The outdated kitchen was also remodeled at this time with new cabinets, flooring, countertops and appliances.
On the exterior, we designed a 2-story gabled volume to echo the original home, but stepped it back from the front facade to lessen the visual impact. The elevation facing the street is clad in brick recovered from the home during the demolition phase. In the back, an existing screen porch was removed to make way for the new family room addition to stretch into the backyard.
